Balancing Emotions

Image
As human we operate on emotions and most of the decisions we take is influenced by our emotion, while we justify it logically. Emotions like anger, love, hate, sadness, fear, joy have some triggers to excite those specific emotions. Some horror movie scene triggers the fear in us, seeing someone we have crush triggers the love feeling in us and so on. There are three parts to an emotion: 1.       A subjective component (how you experience the emotion) 2.      A physiological component (how your bodies react to the emotion) 3.      An expressive component (how you behave in response to the emotion). These different elements can play a role in the function and purpose of your emotional responses. Emotions can be short-lived, such as a flash of annoyance at a co-worker, or long-lasting, such as enduring sadness over the loss of a relationship. But why exactly do we experience emotions? What role do they se...

The Subconscious mind

Image
The subconscious mind – something that has a huge effect on every action, but is constantly overlooked. Your subconscious mind is the seat of your emotions. It is a creative mind. It accepts what is impressed upon it or what you consciously believe. Instead, the focus is often on our conscious mind, which contains the critical thought function of our brains. The subconscious is the powerful layer underneath. It encompasses the awareness of all things the conscious mind cannot recognize. Once the subconscious is tapped into, this remarkable part of the brain plays many different roles in your everyday life. Whether we like it or not, our ability to control thoughts synchronize movements, or experience emotions depend on the depth of  information processing. The idea of deeper levels of information processing was developed and extensively studied by famous Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud who introduced the 3 level mind model. According to his mode...

Deal gracefully with Life transition!

Image
A life transition can be positive or negative, planned or unexpected. Some transitions happen without warning, and they may be quite dramatic, as in cases of accidents, death, divorce, job loss, or serious illness. Other life transitions come from positive experiences such as getting married, going away to college, starting a new job, moving to a new city, or giving birth to a child. Life transitions give us a chance to learn about our strengths and to explore what we really want out of life. This time of reflection can result in a sense of renewal, stability, and a new equilibrium. We live in a culture that has taught us to be very uncomfortable with uncertainty, so we are anxious when our lives are disrupted. Even though some events are usually planned and anticipated, they can be just as life-altering as unexpected events. Whether positive or negative, life transitions cause us to leave behind the familiar and force us to adjust to new ways of living, at least tempo...

Life Transforming Habits!

Image
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore is not a act, but a habit"  quote by Aristotle has always influenced me. Habits form when you engage in behavior repeatedly in the presence of consistent stimuli. That habits are "automatic" responses to familiar environmental cues. You save mental energy by developing habitual responses to familiar cues, situations, and even people that you encounter on a regular basis. If we don’t learn good habits, life becomes more difficult. We have a choice: Get hard on ourselves so life becomes easier, or get easy on ourselves resulting in life getting harder. Successful people choose good habits over a stagnant life. At first it might not seem like you are accomplishing much, but don’t be fooled. “Small hinges open big doors.” Changing habits is not just a matter of willpower, despite what you’ve probably learned. Sure, we all have habits we’ve tried to break and failed. And good habits we’ve tried to ...
